I, me, myself

The Where, Why and When

One of the first things I noticed on my first day at uni was the large diversity in the nationalities of the students here. I am from Chennai in the south Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Most of you would have heard of its older name, Madras. It is a city that is at once traditional and modern; the older customs of our ancestors exist side by side with the BPO and the IT industries as well as a more western lifestyle among the youth.

My family itself has had a long history of association with the advertising industry. Two of the most influential people in my life are currently a creative director of an advertising agency and a leading copywriter. Growing up in such an environment, I became fascinated by the English language at a very early stage. After gaining a BA in English Literature from one of the best colleges in Chennai, I worked for two years as an editor and ended up leading a 24-member team. It was at this point that I decided to explore the field of public relations and applied for the course at Leeds Met.

Now that I’m actually here, and having finished my first semester, I’m finding PR very fascinating indeed. The course has helped me so far to engage in the vagaries of the subject as well as introduced me to some amazing topics and debates using some fun tools. I look forward to learning more about PR through this blog as much as my classes and books.

So here’s to leaning, sharing and discussing.
